Master of Installation – Joonas Heinimaa: ”Heart, skill and the joy of work”

Working at Raumaster Paper Oy as a Site Supervisor, Joonas Heinimaa has the spirit of a traveller that keeps him working on the go. His entrepreneurial character, combined with a collaborative company culture, ensures that projects are completed on time and to a high standard of quality.
The role of a Site Supervisor requires not only strong expertise but also the ability to understand and anticipate the customers' needs and wishes. As an Electrical Site Supervisor at Raumaster Paper Oy, Joonas Heinimaa emphasises the importance of exceeding customer expectations, delivering more than they even think to ask for.
"I must be alert towards many different directions at once. For my part, I take care that the equipment we make is done according to the customer’s wishes, and that it also meets our in-house requirements. I look over the work being done as we have planned and agreed on", Heinimaa explains.
He familiarises himself with the equipment to be installed, understanding its functionalities and the requirements for bringing it to operational capacity. Heinimaa must also grasp the mechanical operations of the equipment.
On-site, electrical work may be carried out simultaneously in multiple locations, all of which Heinimaa oversees and provides guidance for. He must stay up-to-date with the progress and methods of the electrical work being performed.
"I ensure that the assemblers have the necessary materials and that they receive proper instructions for each specific installation. In practice, I act as an advisor and counsellor, but I also participate in the installation work."

A traveller’s spirit
Projects land on Heinimaa’s desk when the equipment is in the initial stages of production at the Pori Warehouse. He maintains close communication with the Automation Department, responsible for electrical engineering, and highlights significant matters from the perspective of electrification.
Primarily, Heinimaa works abroad, averaging around 150 travel days per year. Recently, his site destinations have included Turkey and the Czech Republic.
"I am made for working in an international environment. I love travelling and my soul longs to be out in the world. At the site, the everyday work is hectic and efficient. This kind of environment suits my personality", Heinimaa says.
"The work is always done as a team, so continuous interaction and following shared rules and regulations are crucial. Due to cultural differences, one must quickly adapt to new customs. We Finns are often perceived as thorough and positively direct."

Shared goals are achieved together
An electrician by education, Heinimaa has also completed Electrical Qualification 2 (S2), a requirement for entrepreneurs in the electrical field. At one point, he planned to become a business owner, and had a place lined up at a higher education institute.
"I used to work at industrial maintenance companies that did electrical work for Raumaster as subcontractors. I was asked to work at Raumaster Paper Oy, and it completely changed my plans. I have not regretted this for a day", Heinimaa smiles.
He has worked at Raumaster Paper since February 2022. He originally started as a leader of Electrical and Automation Preassembly work, moving up to a management position after six months. He has worked as an Electrical Site Supervisor since September 2023.
"I have a very entrepreneurial character. I think in this work, in addition to expertise, you must have a heart that beats for the company, strong will, and the right kind of enthusiasm, so things can be completed as agreed and on time. We build equipment and reach our goals together as colleagues."
