Master of Warehouse – Max Tähtinen: “Genuine interest in things”
The strong team collaboration at Sampaanala warehouse ensures, that the components leave on schedule. In the job of Max Tähtinen, the warehouse coordinator, the emphasis is on cooperation, flexibility and genuine interest in things.
The daily life at Raumaster Oy’s Sampaanala warehouse is hectic. A team of approximately ten people collect, pack and send the device specific components to the manufacturing subcontractor workshops, as well as to their own workshop located at the premises. The warehouse also supplies finished products to the end customers, in addition to providing installation parts and spare parts all over the world.
The work at the warehouse is divided between project and CS collections and deliveries. Sticking to the strict schedule requires precision and seamless collaboration. The warehouse coordinator Max Tähtinen ensures that the components go to the right place at the right time.
“I am the primary contact person to the Nortamonkatu CS department. I work in close collaboration with the departments which manage spare parts and logistics. Typically, I am in charge of attaching all of the spare part shipment notes of the CS department on the packages and organize the packages so that they are easy to pick up”, Tähtinen states.
"I handle a variety of issues nearly every day."
Part of the work also involves allocating the warehouses CS-operations workload and personnel resources together with the foreman Riku Luukkonen.
“The spare part shipments of the CS department also involve inquiries every now and then, especially as the transportations can be arranged by the customer. I create collection lists and deliveries, and manage the refinement collections of the CS department, occasionally also handling the deliveries of the refinement collections myself.”
Self-directed working
Tähtinen, who first joined Raumaster in 2019 as a summer employee at the warehouse, transitioned to a brand-new position as the warehouse coordinator at the Sampaanala warehouse in the summer of 2023.
“The goal is to get the spare part deliveries into the warehouse complex, and to make them more visible. Due to my practical work experience, I can read the lists, identify the components, and understand how to pack them, as well as the amount of time required for the different packing tasks.”
The workdays are spent on both office and warehouse duties. Tähtinen also collects items, handles loading, identification plates, waybills and covers for Luukkonen and the warehouse manager Tuukka Degerman when needed.
“I get to be quite self-directed in my work. Variability is one of those things that makes the job pleasant. No two days are the same at the warehouse.”
Everyone’s contribution counts
We deal with very fast delivery times in some cases at the warehouse, especially when there is a planned delivery date for the goods, and they have not arrived at the warehouse within the desired timeframe.
“We stick to the schedule, which brings a certain amount of rush to the daily routine. We have a small and close-knit team, where everyone’s contribution counts”, Tähtinen states
"Raumaster has a positive attitude towards developing your skills."
He has also educated himself alongside work. In 2020-21 Tähtinen completed the basic degree of logistics warehouse manager in the form of apprenticeship training at Raumaster and is currently studying at SAMK to become a logistics engineer.
“Even though balancing work and study is hectic, I have not regretted one day. Raumaster has a positive attitude towards developing your skills and enables studying alongside work in a great way.”
